Remembrance Day

The Eleventh Hour of the Eleventh Day of the Eleventh Month 1918 was the day the guns of WWI finally fell silent. Ending years of unprecedented suffering and violence. The “War to end all wars” claimed the lives of many millions of people, soldiers and civilians alike.

To honour those brave people who died throughout conflicts around the world; Hill Holt Wood holds a remembrance service in a dedicated permanent area of the wood.

Each year we are honoured to welcome veterans to help us remember the fallen and this year’s ceremony was led by Air Commodore Stevenson and Reverend David Milner of Collingham Parish.

Ranger Oliver Woodman read aloud the poem “The Fallen” and two minutes silence were impeccably observed. We believe that the event is an important opportunity for our youngsters to meet retired and serving members of the armed forces and help to break down stereotypes.
