9th June 2012
23rd June 2012
14th July 2012
Conserving the environment is something that mankind has gradually forgotten how to do. In the modern age less and less consideration is taken on how an activity will affect the environment it is in. In recent years environmentalism has benefited from a renaissance with the sudden realisation that without urgent action the planet that we live on will be harmed beyond all help. Environmental conservation starts in your home, in your garden and in your mind. This course will consist of some of the following elements; Introduction to Ancient Woodland, Flora and Fauna identification, Coppicing, Tree Planting, Rhododendron removal, Pond Maintenance, Introduction to Forestry (including tree felling with hand tools), Willow Weaving and more (subject to Ranger weather and season). Please note that this is subject to the weather and seasons.
INTRODUCTION TO GREEN CONSTRUCTION:
21st April 2012
12th May 2012
26th May 2012
16th June 2012
7th July 2012
Please book early to avoid dissappointment!
Creating a sustainable future means building new structures in a responsible manner. Green construction methods are often looked down upon as inferior to modern materials, however given the correct tuition traditional sustainable techniques can lead to beautiful and functional buildings that have minimal impact on the environment they inhabit. Old techniques need to be re-learnt and new methods developed to ensure the revival of the world we live in. The course comprises of the following elements; Load Bearing and Timber Framed Straw-Bale building, Log Cabin Construction, a visit to the double-storey timber-framed offices, Rammed Earth construction with a tour of the award winning Eco-Community Hall (with double reciprocal timber roof), Earth Composting Toilets and Reed Bed Grey-Water Filtration.
If you would like to book for any of these courses, then please send your name, address, telephone number and details of which course you would like to book for to admin@hillholtwood.com
